The incident with the car that crashed into a crowd in the German city of Mannheim on Sunday afternoon is taking on dramatic proportions as the latest reports suggest at least one confirmed dead and another yet to be confirmed.

At the same time more than 25 people have been injured and according to Bild, 15 are in serious condition.

A German news agency reporter stated that at least one person was covered after the incident, without specifying whether it is someone dead or injured.

German newspaper Bild reported that the driver of the vehicle has been arrested, without giving further details.

Local website manheim24 describes that a black SUV moved at high speed from a square towards a fountain where several people were standing. In this area, FAZ reports, there was a market.

In December six people died when a car driven by a 50-year-old man crashed into them at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, while in mid-February a young mother and her child were killed when they were swept away by a car in Munich.

Notably, Mannheim is located in the north of the state of Baden-Württemberg and is its second largest city with 32,000 inhabitants.
