Roula Pispirigou has been unanimously found guilty of the deaths of her two youngest daughters, Iris and Malena, by the Athens Mixed Jury Court today.

Judges and jurors, fully adopting the prosecutor’s recommendation, declared the 36-year-old mother from Patras guilty of serial premeditated homicide in a calm mental state.

The verdict was issued after a marathon evidentiary process lasting nearly a year, during which around 50 witnesses testified in approximately 80 court sessions. Among the witnesses were forensic experts, doctors, and nurses.

Pispirigou’s Defense

During her testimony, the defendant denied all charges, maintaining that she would never harm her children. She stated:
“I may not have been the best mother, but I am not my children’s murderer.”

The Court’s Ruling

According to the prosecution’s case, which the court found substantiated, the two young girls from the Daskalakis family died from asphyxia, allegedly caused by their mother obstructing their airways.

  • On April 13, 2019, while in the hospital, Pispirigou allegedly blocked Malena’s breathing. The child had been hospitalized with a treatable leukemia diagnosis.
  • Nearly a year later, the 36-year-old is accused of killing six-month-old Iris in the same way, while the infant was asleep at home.

Previous Conviction and Sentencing Phase

It should be noted that Pispirigou has already been convicted in a separate trial for the murder of her eldest daughter, Georgina, and is currently serving a life sentence for that case.

Present in court today were her parents, her sister, her ex-husband, and the father of the children, Manos Daskalakis.

With the guilty verdict now delivered, the court will proceed to announce the sentence, following deliberation on whether to recognize any mitigating factors.
