Following a prosecutorial order, Georgia Adilini has ordered an urgent preliminary investigation into the findings of EODASAM (National Organization for Air and Rail Accident and Transport Safety) regarding the Tempi tragedy and the role played by Kostas Lakafosis, technical advisor to the victims’ families.

After the fiasco surrounding the EODASAM report on Tempi, and following confirmation that Ghent University had never conducted substantive research and had instead based its conclusions on data and calculations from EDAPO (Committee of Independent Experts of the Families), of which mechanical engineer and technical advisor Kostas Lakafosis is a key member, the Supreme Court (Areios Pagos) is requesting an investigation. The focus is to determine “the circumstances under which the report of the National Organization for Air and Rail Accident and Transport Safety (E.O.D.A.S.A.M.), announced on 27-2-2025, included the conclusion — citing contributions from the Universities of Ghent and Pisa — that the likely cause of the fireball created immediately after the train collision was an unknown flammable volatile liquid of at least 2.5 tons, allegedly carried by the freight train and unrelated to the trains’ engines or their declared cargo.”

According to the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, the aim of the investigation is to “ascertain criminal acts prosecutable ex officio, such as, for example, undue influence on judicial officials (Article 167A of the Penal Code), following the denial by representatives of the above-mentioned Universities of Ghent and Pisa of the conclusion attributed to them in the report.”

At the same time, the investigation will examine the role played in shaping this conclusion by both the EDAPO and technical advisor Kostas Lakafosis.

You are requested to conduct an urgent preliminary investigation in order to examine the circumstances under which the conclusion was included in the report of the National Organization for Air and Rail Accident and Transport Safety (E.O.D.A.S.A.M.) regarding the Tempi case, which was announced on 27-2-2025. The conclusion in question, citing the contribution of the Universities of Ghent and Pisa, deemed as a probable cause of the fireball that occurred immediately after the train collision an unknown flammable volatile liquid of at least 2.5 tons, allegedly carried by the freight train, which was unrelated to the train engines or their declared cargo.

This investigation is deemed necessary to determine criminal acts prosecutable ex officio, such as, for instance, undue influence on judicial officials (Article 167A of the Penal Code), following the denial by representatives of the aforementioned Universities of Ghent and Pisa of the conclusion attributed to them in the report.

Among other matters, the investigation should also determine the role played in formulating the above conclusion by the Committee of Independent Experts of the Families (EDAPO) and by the technical advisor of the Tempi victims’ families, Kostas Lakafosis.
