Nawaf Salameh, the well-known Syrian doctor and Philhellene, has suddenly passed away.
He was particularly recognized for his love for Greece and for Alexander the Great, and in recent years, his plans for the first production facility for agricultural origin ethyl alcohol (pure ethanol) in Kavala had come to light.
According to kavalanews.gr, the industry aimed to produce about 30 million liters annually and would create more than 100 jobs. The investment for the first phase was expected to exceed 35 million euros, while over a ten-year horizon, the total investments of the Alexandrion group would surpass 100 million euros.
The group founded by the Syrian doctor is based in Romania and is the largest producer of wines and alcoholic beverages in the country.
He had stated regarding the investment in Kavala: “The reason we chose Greece for this significant investment is the love my whole family has for the country. After all, after my medical studies here in Romania, I recognized my degree in Greece and worked for a while at the Gennimatas Hospital. My children were born in Greece and hold Greek citizenship. You know that the name of my group is also due to my love for Alexander the Great.”
His family announced the news of his death on social media.
