City in the Netherlands accidentally threw Warhol’s artwork of Queen Beatrice in the trash

The works were in the basement of the building, with no rules for proper storage, so that's probably why they ended up in the trash.

The municipality of the city of Maashorst in the Netherlands has admitted to throwing away – most likely by mistake – 46 works of art, including a work by Andy Warhol depicting the former Queen Beatrix.

The mistake was made last year during renovations. The works were in the basement of the building, with no rules for proper storage, so that’s probably why they ended up in the trash.

Warhol’s work, from 1985, is a silkscreen print worth around €15,000, the BBC reports. The total value of the works is estimated to be around 22,000 euros.

The former queen had visited the city last October and was photographed in front of the project.
