The co-president of the Euro-Greens in the European Parliament and radical ’60s student activist qualified his statement by saying the newly formed POTAMI (River) “is the party that (SYRIZA leader Alexis) Tsipras needs in order to acquire a majority”.

A leading figure of the May ’68 Paris protests and long-time European left figure, Mr. Cohn-Bendit was asked to comment on Greek political developments by the French radio station “Europe 1”.

“They (POTAMI) are the liberals of the left … POTAMI participates in the Eurogroup of Socialists, although I would prefer that it participated in the Greens … It is the party that Tsipras needs in order to acquire (Parliament) majority”, he concluded.
