The film “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” will make its debut in theaters on December 17, 2027, as announced by Warner Bros. and New Line. The release date is not particularly surprising, given that all six movies from the “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies directed by Peter Jackson premiered in December, just before the Christmas holidays.
Antony Serkis, the legendary Gollum, returns not only to reprise his role but also takes on the role of director. The Oscar-winning team, comprising Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, will be involved in producing the new film. Warner Bros., in their announcement, emphasized that “they will participate in every step of production,” and they will be joined by Zain Wiener.
Walsh and Boyens have taken charge of the screenplay, along with Fibi Gittens and Arti Papageorgiou. Executive producers will include Ken Cummings, Serkis, and Jonathan Cavendish from Imaginarium.
The news about “The Hunt for Gollum” comes after Warner Bros Discovery reported positive financial results for the first quarter, showing growth in both the number of streaming service subscribers and profits, according to Deadline. The six live-action films released so far by Warner Bros./New Line have grossed over $5.9 billion worldwide.
