Complaint for the attack on an employee and deputy mayor in the Planning filed by the mayor of Chania

Panagiotis Simandirakis went to the Prosecutor's Office accompanied by Deputy Mayor Nikos Hazirakis who was the victim of the verbal and physical attack

A complaint for the disruption of the normal operation of Polio was filed by Mayor Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis, for the attack that an employee and deputy mayor who was punched.

The contents of the lawsuit were unanimously approved at the city commission meeting earlier this morning and read:

“On 09-05-2025 and in the Building Services Department criminal acts were carried out despite… and other persons, unknown other data, against the employee of the construction control department of the building service construction department Kon/nos Brokalakis of Nicholas and the Deputy Mayor of Chania Nicholas Hazirakis of Ioannis, with manual violence against them and assault using a metal coffee bottle as well as wood length of one meter, resulting in the disruption and interruption of the normal operation of the service for a significant period, due to the behavior of these individuals” directed against the person who after the initial episode, returned to the service with the cane and “other other persons, unknown other elements.

Simandirakis went to the Prosecutor’s Office accompanied by Deputy Mayor Nikos Hazirakis, who was the victim of the verbal and physical attack, according to zarpanews.gr.

Hazirakis said that it was a personal choice of him and the affected engineer not to move under the self-incrimination procedure for the incident itself, which is however described in the complaint. “We are not going to go back on the autopsy report,” Semandirakis and Hazirakis asserted, noting that the planning department will do its job unaffected by such incidents.

At the Planning Department, “one of our fellow citizens decided to take the law into his own hands, decided to manhandle employees and the deputy mayor. This cannot be tolerated. Not just any citizen can not move, intimidate and obstruct the operation of services,” said the mayor of Chania, Mr. Simandirakis.

“The building service always operates transparently and by the law. So did in this case, where an autopsy and inspection of this particular investment have been carried out. Some minor overruns were found about the licensing for some small fills,” he added.

“Justice will do its work, and I want to send a message to the workers of the municipality of Chania that they should feel safe, the municipal authority will be by their side, and the whole society, no one is above the law and can not be manipulated,” he said.
