Over 700,000 plot cleanup declarations submitted in Greece

Nearly all municipalities now linked to the digital platform

Newsroom June 16 07:00

A total of 701,823 property cleanup declarations have been submitted in Greece, following the deadline that ended on Sunday, June 15, 2025. The process is part of a national wildfire prevention strategy, requiring property owners to clear their plots of vegetation and flammable material.

Major Surge in Last-Minute Submissions

According to data from Civil Protection authorities, the final week saw a sharp increase in activity. On the last day alone, nearly 90,000 submissions were made through the government’s digital platform: https://akatharista.apps.gov.gr.

An impressive 329 out of 334 municipalities across Greece have registered and integrated with the platform—up from just 55% (185 municipalities) in 2024. This high participation rate significantly strengthens local fire prevention readiness.

Stricter Deadline and Upcoming Inspections

Sources from Civil Protection noted that the total number of declarations is seen as a positive outcome, particularly given this year’s shorter deadline—compared to last year’s extended cutoff of July 15, 2024.

Authorities now move into the inspection phase, as systematic checks are expected to be carried out by both municipal services and the Fire Department. Administrative fines will be imposed for non-compliance, and criminal penalties may apply in cases of false declarations.

New Enforcement Powers for Fire Department

A Joint Ministerial Decision (KYA) has granted the Fire Service full authority to investigate citizen reports of uncleaned private properties, inspect them, and impose penalties accordingly.

Municipalities are also required to conduct random inspections covering at least 5% of all declarations within their administrative area, ensuring a widespread enforcement mechanism.
