See … Santorini of South Korea

How the Gamcheon culture village from one of the poorest regions of the country became an amazing attraction

Newsroom April 16 10:29

This Gamcheon culture village in South Korea reminds something of …Greece. It is located on a mountainside in southern Busan and locals often compare the view of the village with Santorini’s beautiful view, Machu Picchu in Peru, even with a settlement made of Lego because of its shape and its colorful houses.

The Gamcheon is full of narrow streets and it is also called Taegeuk village. It was built in 1918 , when thousands of people seek refuge in the area of Busan because of the war .

Until a few years ago the village was regarded as one of the poorest areas in the region of South Korea. In 2009, however , the Ministry of Culture , Sports and Tourism of the country initiated a program for the conservation of the village. Thanks to that program the village became this artistic community that we can admire today, attracting millions of tourists.
