A wildfire is currently burning in a forested area at Tzigkouna, near Antiskari, in the Mesara region of Crete. The fire has triggered a major response from local authorities.
Seventeen fire engines with 48 firefighters and a specialized ground team from the 3rd EMODE (Special Forest Fire Unit) are on the scene, working hard to contain the fire and protect nearby communities.

Additionally, municipal water trucks are assisting in the effort to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to other areas of Crete. Two firefighting helicopters are also part of the operation.
An emergency alert (112) was sent a short while ago to residents in this part of Crete, urging them to stay on standby as crews battle the fire.
