Sunday will have heavy rainfall, snow and northerly winds and a sharp drop in temperatures from the afternoon. Wind velocity will reach 9 on the Beaufort scale. The norther parts of the country will experience stormy weather and possibly snow, with temperatures ranging from 2C-10C. The same is expected in the western parts with temperatures between 5C-13C. Wet weather in the eastern parts and possible snow at night, with temperatures between 4C-15C. Rain and storms over the islands, 9C-17C. Cloudy in Athens, 5C-15C. Rain is expected in Thessaloniki, 3C-10C, falling sharply at night.
The weather service has also warned of snow, especially at higher altitudes and in eastern parts of the country, combined with a sharp drop in temperatures and near gale-force winds. The bad weather is expected to continue in the east and south until Tuesday.
Civil protection mechanisms are currently on alert for flooding in Evros, where settlements are considered at risk of flooding due to the large volumes of water in the Evros River.
Defense Minister Panos Kammenos and the Hellenic National Defence General Staff chief General Mikhail Kostarakos visited the area in order to assess how the army could assist the local communities and to coordinate efforts.
