Obama asking Angela how Greece will return to ‘sustainable growth within the EZ’

According to the German Chancellor, “what matters most is what will the Greek government bring to the table”

Newsroom February 9 07:08

At the beginning of the joint press conference, the US President congratulated the German Chancellor for her re-election as well as for Germany’s football success last year.

On the Greek issue, the US President stressed that “I look forward to hearing Angela’s assessment of how Europe and the IMF can work with the new Greek government to find a way that returns Greece to sustainable growth within the Eurozone.”

On her side, Merkel referred to Wednesday’s Eurogroup and stressed that “what is important is what Greece will bring to the table”.

She further said that since 2010 Germany has worked on keeping Greece within the Eurozone. However, basic rules remain the same: Solidarity by others, programs are the basis for talks. I always say that Greece must present a sustainable program and then we will talk. ”
