The Breakdown of 2025 University Entrance Scores in Greece: Which Schools Dropped and Which Remained Strong

The results of the 2025 Panhellenic university entrance exams were announced today, Thursday, July 24, at 6:00 PM — one day earlier than expected

Newsroom July 24 10:11

Today, Thursday, July 24, at 6:00 PM, the results of Greece’s 2025 Panhellenic University Entrance Examinations were officially announced — one day earlier than expected. This year’s statistical landscape of the admission thresholds (“vaseis”) reveals both significant shifts and noteworthy stability across popular university departments.

Key Participation Numbers

A total of 70,276 candidates took part in this year’s exams:

  • 59,822 from General High Schools (GEL)
  • 10,454 from Vocational High Schools (EPAL)

Out of these, 62,848 candidates secured admission into institutions including universities, Ecclesiastical Academies, ASPAITE, ASTE, and Military, Police, Fire Academy, Merchant Marine, and Coast Guard schools.

Moreover, 20,825 candidates submitted the supplementary parallel application for vocational programs. Of these, 16,138 succeeded, including 16,023 in the general category and 115 in special categories.

According to education counselor and mathematician Giannis Zampelis, who analyzed the results for Protothema.gr:

  • 20,486 GEL and 5,753 EPAL candidates did not submit a university application form.
  • 1,434 GEL and 3,271 EPAL candidates submitted forms but did not gain admission.

Where Did Scores Rise or Fall?

This year:

  • 232 departments saw an increase in entry scores
  • 200 departments saw a decrease

From the GEL candidates alone, 10,628 university seats remain unfilled due to the Minimum Entry Score (E.B.E.), while 250 seats are vacant among EPAL applicants for the same reason.

Medical Schools

Medical programs showed very small fluctuations:

  • Thessaloniki: +25 points
  • Larissa: -25 points
  • Patras: -15 points
  • S.S.A.S. (Military Medical School): -50 points
  • Other programs: remained stable

Psychology Programs

Experienced a drop of 120–445 points, except for Didymoteicho, which rose by 150 points.

Electrical & Computer Engineering

  • Athens: -100 points
  • Kozani: -355 points
  • Other schools in this category saw increases ranging from +40 to +688 points

Notable Score Drops

Some traditionally strong departments saw drops, including:

Consistently among the most sought-after programs, maintaining its high rank.
  • Architecture (University of Patras) — 18,690 points
A strong contender in the 2nd scientific field, with notable gains.

Medicine and Law at NKUA Still on Top

Once again, Medicine and Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) top the entry score rankings:

  • Medicine (NKUA) remains the most coveted program in higher education, holding steady at 18,775 points.
  • Law (NKUA) draws the highest number of first-choice applications in the humanities, with an entry score of 17,875 points — reaffirming its academic prestige.

Other high-demand departments include Pharmacy, Dentistry, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, and Informatics & Telecommunications.

This year’s university entry data reflects evolving preferences, the impact of the Minimum Entry Score, and intensified competition in specific fields, particularly in health, engineering, and international studies.
