Authorities have located and detained the woman (of Algerian origin) who was captured on video pushing a stroller and accompanied by two children in Palaio Faliro. She had been the focus of an intensive search in connection with the discovery of a little girl’s body on Edem Beach.

Although the woman does not speak Greek, her testimony is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

How Police Tracked Down the Woman

Investigators had been analyzing CCTV footage showing a woman with two children and a baby in a stroller, wearing clothes matching those of the girl found dead. The footage revealed that the woman eventually ended up in the Patissia area of Athens. The Coast Guard notified the Security Police, who rushed to the location.

Police identified and monitored her, and when she attempted to hail a taxi around 6:45 a.m. with the children, they moved in and took her in for questioning. She is now at police headquarters (GADA) along with the two other children.

Key Evidence and Timeline

About five hours after being seen near the beach kiosk, the same woman appears in another video, still with the two children but now without the stroller.

Evidence suggests she boarded a taxi early the next morning after the kiosk stop, leaving the area without the stroller. Investigators are now focused on tracking the taxi route and locating the driver for potentially critical information.

One striking detail noted by analysts is that, in the second video, the woman is wearing her dress inside out—a possible sign of hurried departure, perhaps dressing quickly on the beach in an attempt to flee the area.

Questions Raised by the Photo

A photo published by protothema.gr, believed to show the little girl before her death, has also raised concerns. The child is wearing a hat despite it being 9:30 p.m., her face is covered, and her posture in the stroller suggests she was, at best, asleep. Authorities are also considering that the child had a metabolic disorder—as confirmed by the coroner—and the extreme heat may have worsened her condition.

One theory under consideration is that the girl’s condition might explain why the woman, possibly her mother, took the children to the beach at night. Notably, only the girl in the stroller was wearing a swimsuit.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities try to piece together what happened and confirm the identity of the deceased child.
