Palaio Faliro: Algerian woman brought before the investigating magistrate over daughter’s death

Facing serious charges of homicide and domestic violence

Newsroom August 3 11:05

A 32-year-old Algerian woman, who confessed to abandoning her 3-year-old daughter at Edem beach in Palaio Faliro in the early hours of last Sunday, is currently being brought before the Investigating Magistrate.

Shortly after 10 a.m., the mother was transferred from the Flisvos Port Authority, where she had been held for the past two days, to the former Evelpidon School Courthouse. She is facing charges of Premeditated Homicide in a Calm Mental State and Dangerous Bodily Harm in a Domestic Setting, with her 3-year-old daughter as the victim.

This case has shocked both the public and the authorities, and new revelations are expected concerning the exact cause of the child’s death.

On Saturday afternoon, it was revealed that blood stains found at the family’s home in Patissia belonged to the little girl who drowned in Palaio Faliro. The stains were located in drawers between the bathroom and the kitchen of the apartment, further strengthening suspicions of foul play.

Upon her arrest, the mother initially claimed that the child had been injured in the bathroom and that she then took her to the beach after noticing that the child’s body was still warm and her heart was beating. However, during her statement to the Coast Guard, she changed her story, claiming the incident was an accident at sea and that her daughter had slipped.

According to Mega, the 32-year-old allegedly stated to the Coast Guard:

“I entered the sea holding the baby, who was no longer alive. I walked in as far as I could stand and left her there. Then I went back, got dressed, told her siblings that we had given her to a friend of mine, and we left.”

In another part of her testimony, the woman stated:

Developments in the Palaio Faliro case: Bloodstains from the 3-year-old found in the Patissia apartment

“The child fell in the bathroom and had head injuries. I wrapped her up and moved her because the other kids wanted to come in. I saw that she had bruises. I realized she wasn’t alive.”

According to her account, she was panicked and decided not to notify anyone:

“I was scared because I didn’t want to go to the hospital, knowing they would accuse me. That’s when I decided to go to that beach we had visited before,” she added.
