The moment floodwaters sweep away homes in India – At least 4 dead and 50 missing, video shows

An estimated 10 to 12 people may be buried under the debris

Newsroom August 5 07:07

At least four people have died and 50 are missing after a devastating storm caused flash flooding in northern India.

According to The Sun, the massive storm struck the Darali area in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, triggering landslides and floods that led to the collapse of a hillside.

Somewhere in #Uttarkashi, a child is crying for her parents. A man is digging with bare hands to find what’s left. And we say “climate change is not that serious”? This is not just a crisis. It’s a collapse of humanity. Prayers to the people of #Uttarakhand. Please be safe 🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/pjSKo09zfC

Shocking footage broadcast by local TV stations showed floodwaters rushing down the mountain, destroying everything in their path – even sweeping away homes.

Speaking to the local PTI news agency, a villager named Rajesh Panwar said that about 10 to 12 people may have been buried under the rubble. He also noted that between 20 and 25 hotels and guesthouses may have been destroyed.

A massive cloudburst struck Tharali village in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.

The Uttarkashi police urged residents to stay away from the river, while the state’s Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, said rescue teams had been deployed to conduct extensive search operations.

“The news of the severe damage caused by the storm in the Darali area is extremely saddening and painful. The relevant authorities are engaged in rescue and relief operations in emergency mode. I am in constant contact with senior officials, and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to God for everyone’s safety.”

Uttarakhand, located in the Himalayas, is increasingly prone to floods and landslides – phenomena that experts attribute to climate change.

Today, a red alert was issued for heavy rainfall, along with a yellow warning for the rest of the week.
