Russia and Ukraine are at a “standstill” in terms of direct negotiations between the two countries, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Peskov said that for now, it is more appropriate to talk about “a pause” in contacts than any progress in the talks.

“At the moment, perhaps it is more correct to talk about a pause,” Peskov told reporters, adding that, nevertheless, channels of communication remain open. “There are channels of communication, they have been established. Our negotiators are able to communicate through these channels, but for now, it might be more appropriate to talk about a pause,” he added.

Referring to expectations about the results of the negotiations, Peskov stressed that one cannot “wear rose-colored glasses” and expect that the negotiation process on Ukraine will yield immediate results. Russia remains ready for a solution to the Ukraine issue, but Europe, according to Peskov, is delaying the process.

“The fact that the Europeans are delaying is true. It is not a secret for anyone,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
