War in Ukraine: The question is who will push the button, says the Kremlin on the US Tomahawk

"Will the Ukrainians or Americans and soldiers launch them and who will choose the target?" asked Peskov, adding, however, that the Tomahawks will not change the dynamics of the war

Newsroom September 29 03:47

Russia said today that it would carefully consider whether US Tomahawk missiles likely to be delivered to Ukraine would be launched using US-supplied military data.

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said yesterday that Washington is considering Kiev’s request to acquire Tomahawk missiles that have a range of 2,500 km – enough to hit Moscow if launched from Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said in the past that Western countries would become directly involved in the war if they provided military data and information to allow Ukraine to launch missiles deep into Russian territory.

Asked about Vance’s comments, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov replied that Russia is examining them thoroughly.

“The question, as before, is this: who can launch these missiles? Can only the Ukrainians do it, or should it be American soldiers? Who determines the choice of target for these missiles? The US side or the Ukrainians themselves?” Peskov added, saying that a very in-depth analysis is required.

In any case, he commented – the Tomahawk missiles will not bring the ups and downs. “Even if that happens, it’s not a panacea that can change the situation on the front for the Kiev regime at the moment. There is no magic weapon. And whether it is Tomahawks or other missiles, they will not be able to change the dynamics,”Peskov said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked the US to sell Tomahawk missiles to European countries, which the latter will send to Ukraine.

Vance told Fox News Sunday that Donald Trump will be the one to make the final decision on whether to give the green light to the deal.

For his part, Keith Kellogg, the US special envoy to Ukraine, said that Trump has hinted that Kiev could currently carry out long-range strikes targeting Russia.

“I think reading what Trump has said and reading what Vice President Vance has said… and what Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said, the answer is yes. Use your wounding ability in depth. There is no sanctuary,”Kellogg said later yesterday on Fox News.

These statements are part of a major shift in the Trump administration’s tone on the conflict in recent days.

Last week, Donald Trump said that Kiev could “reclaim its territory in its original form and maybe even go further”against Russia, after months of claims that Ukraine would instead likely have to cede territory.
