US Deputy Secretary of State Michael Rigas visited Mount Athos shortly before taking part in the sixth Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC), which is jointly organized by the US Department of Energy, Greece’s Ministry of Environment and Energy, and the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, at Zappeion.

The visit of Greek-American Michael Rigas was made public by the Governor of Mount Athos Alkiviadis Stefanis through a Facebook post.

Stefanis’ post:

“We welcomed at Mount Athos the Deputy Foreign Minister of the United States, Mr. Michael Rigas. His visit is a sign of the international community’s consistent interest in the spiritual mission and cultural value of the Athonite State. Our discussions took place in an atmosphere of respect and substantive dialogue, with reference to the tradition and the particular character of this Sacred Place.”
