Clashes broke out at the illegal immigrant pre-deportation facility in Kleidi, Sintiki, in the Serres region.
According to reports, migrants set fire to clothes in the courtyard of the facility, though the fire did not spread. Strong police forces (ELAS) are on the scene, and officers have detained at least 30 individuals.
During the uprising, one police officer was injured by a stone and another was bitten while making an arrest.
Sources told protothema.gr that the migrants are protesting because they are not eligible for asylum and are not allowed to leave the facility.
A case file is being prepared, and security camera footage will be reviewed to identify those involved in the incidents.
The detention center in Kleidi, Sintiki is a closed-type facility where migrants remain under administrative restriction until their applications for international protection—i.e., refugee status—are examined or rejected.
The Sintiki center is part of a broader plan implemented by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, under Thanos Plevris, aiming to convert open reception facilities into controlled ones.
