Fire destroys four yachts at Marina Zeas — Three sink as firefighters battle the blaze

A major fire broke out early Thursday morning at Marina Zeas in Piraeus, destroying four yachts and causing three of them to sink

Newsroom November 13 08:03

The alarm was raised at around 3:30 a.m., when the Fire Service received reports of flames engulfing vessels moored at the marina.

According to the Fire Department, 20 firefighters with 8 vehicles, as well as firefighting and coast guard boats, were dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze and perform water drops from the sea.

Preliminary information suggests the fire started on one yacht for reasons still under investigation, before spreading rapidly to neighboring vessels. Three boats have already sunk, while the fourth has listed heavily.

Authorities have deployed special floating barriers around the area to prevent marine pollution from leaking fuel or debris.
