With exceptionally laudatory words, Konstantopoulou commented on Karanastasis’ resignation from his parliamentary seat. Speaking from the Parliament’s colonnade, the president of Plefsi Eleftherias (Course of Freedom) praised Mr. Karanastasis’ integrity, his stance, and his contribution.
In a highly personal statement, Konstantopoulou described the resignation as a conscious decision aligned with the former MP’s values and integrity.
Calling the resignation a “deeply political, genuine, and difficult act, like everything this unique, brilliant, rare human being has done,” Konstantopoulou emphasized that Mr. Karanastasis “leaves behind a political and social legacy of an untamed person who does not accept the filth of the power system.”
“He is the soul, the guiding mind, the inspirer, and the general”
In an emotionally intense statement, Konstantopoulou said that the resignation “honors Plefsi Eleftherias, which he founded, revived, brought into Parliament, and cared for like a father caring for his child until it is safe.”
She also spoke in particularly praiseworthy terms about the contribution of the actor and her partner to the party. “The resignation comes after almost ten years of offering to Plefsi. He is the soul, the guiding mind, the inspirer, and the general in countless battles and victories, the one who believed, persisted, and endured,” she added.
“Plefsi loses from its frontline its invaluable support, its defender and inspirer—it loses its most precious pillar—but it emerges strengthened and empowered by the example he created and embodied,” she stated, expressing her deep gratitude “for every word, every statement, every bold intervention and immeasurable action. I want to express my gratitude for everything he represents and tell him: ‘Diamantis, we will change the world—you have already changed it yourself, you shifted things—and one day, not too far from now, Parliament will be clean, full of clean people, moved by culture.’”
Full Statement by Zoe Konstantopoulou
We are not all the same, nor will we ever become the same. We are not all the same, and Diamantis proved this with every act of his and every drop of his self-surpassing—with his choices, with all he gave, and with his political resignation from office. We are not all the same: while some cling to positions of power, Diamantis chose to remain faithful to his ideas, to culture, to love for humanity, to creation, and he showed what courage and integrity mean.
The resignation is a deeply political, genuine, and difficult act—like everything this unique, brilliant, rare human being has done. He leaves behind a political and social legacy of an untamed man who does not accept the filth of the system of power.
His resignation honors him; it honors Plefsi Eleftherias, which he founded, revived, brought into Parliament, and cared for like a father cares for his child until it is safe.
The resignation comes after almost ten years of contribution to Plefsi. He is the soul, the guiding mind, the inspirer, and the general in countless battles and victories—the one who believed, persisted, and endured.
He leaves the parliamentary office after yet another major historic victory—our great event, which he conceived, designed, and carried out: the global network and the Plefsi Eleftherias program.
It was a political moment that has already entered history and made history, an invaluable legacy that Diamantis leaves to Plefsi and to citizens. His contribution is priceless, and I obviously cannot encapsulate it in a single statement. I must underline that his decision was and is deeply conscious, in complete alignment with the values of a profoundly humble person. He leaves Parliament as a victor because neither the mire defeated him nor overwhelmed him—he prevailed and managed to chart an entirely different, unusual, unconventional path. His speeches have not been made in this way, with this truth—everyone here in Parliament knows how much the workers love him.
He conquered, transmitted, and retransmitted culture. His decision was made before our great event. He offered it as his final great gift, and thus we safeguard that legacy. You do not know—and we do not know—many people who relinquish office for principles and values. Plefsi loses from the frontline its invaluable support, its defender and inspirer—it loses its most precious pillar—but it emerges strengthened and empowered by the example he created and embodied.
I feel the need to express my deep gratitude for every word, every statement, every bold intervention and immeasurable action. To express my gratitude for all that he represents and to tell him: “Diamantis, we will change the world—you yourself have changed it; you shifted things—and one day, not too far from now, Parliament will be clean, full of clean people, where culture will move them.”
