Marc Poll for Proto Thema: The government gained “energy” and reached 31%

A shift in the political climate and agenda brought by the Zappeion energy agreements has placed New Democracy now 2.7 points above its European election result in polling — One in three undecided voters identifies as centre-right or centrist

Newsroom November 30 03:01

The change in agenda brought by the Zappeion energy agreements at the beginning of the month is pushing New Democracy to polling levels significantly higher than its performance in the European elections: in the vote estimate, the governing party now stands at 31%, according to the Marc poll published today by “Proto Thema”, with Kyriakos Mitsotakis leading Nikos Androulakis by 23.4 points in suitability for the premiership, as 31.2% of respondents choose him.

The shift in climate and agenda is evident in the poll: both the announcement of the start of drilling for Greek deposits and the renewed prospects for constructing the Greece–Cyprus–Israel electricity interconnection, as well as the creation of the Vertical Corridor for transporting American LNG from Greece all the way to Ukraine, receive particularly positive reactions that exceed 50% across almost all sample categories — age groups, party affiliations, and ideological segments.

At the same time, Greek society appears — by majority — to be returning to common sense: notably, when asked about the Hellenic Post (ELTA), one in two respondents agrees that the number of branches should be reduced, but they also request that alternative means of service be provided for those who still use them. A similar sentiment appears in the OPEKEPE scandal, with significant — cross-party — shares of voters attributing responsibility both to the ministers in office at the time and to those who received subsidies without having any production, whether plant or animal.
