James Cameron joins the billionaires’ club

According to Forbes, the director’s net worth has reached $1.1 billion

Newsroom December 16 07:00

James Cameron has become a billionaire, as Forbes estimates that the fortune of the 71-year-old Canadian director, screenwriter, and producer now stands at $1.1 billion.

With this valuation, Cameron becomes the fifth filmmaker to join this list, alongside George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and Tyler Perry. The report notes that he is the only director who has built the largest part of his wealth primarily from the profits of his films, which have collectively generated nearly $9 billion at the global box office.

Despite having also made investments ranging from real estate and environmental protection organizations to plant-based food companies, Forbes attributes the core of his financial strength to revenues directly linked to his work in the film industry.

In the same context, factors such as his creative control and management of film budgets, his salaries and profit participation, revenues from theme park and gaming licenses, as well as the value of his stake in his company Lightstorm Entertainment, are cited as sufficient to sustain his billionaire status.

The announcement of his financial “leap” comes shortly before the premiere of the film Avatar: Fire and Ash. According to Forbes, the movie is expected to earn him at least $200 million, provided box office projections are confirmed.
