Farmers block the Tempi tunnels to trucks – Map shows all roadblocks throughout Greece

Farmers are continuing their protests during the Christmas holiday period

Newsroom December 22 12:31

At the Nikaia roadblock, they carried out a symbolic closure of the Tempi tunnels, restricting passage for trucks only. Passenger cars and buses are moving normally.

Farmers arrived at Tempi with their tractors shortly before noon and closed the tunnels to freight vehicles. According to their announcement, the blockade will last five hours.

The action is part of an escalation of protests aimed at pressuring the government to meet their demands. Representatives of the farmers have stated that travel for the public will remain unobstructed during the Christmas holiday period.

On Tuesday, December 23, farmers plan to reorganize the placement of tractors at the Nikaia junction to facilitate holiday travel.

Regional Developments

Larissa – Western Thessaly
Farmers at the E65 roadblocks say they will remain in place and continue their actions. Daily assemblies are being held to coordinate activities. In Karditsa, it was decided that one lane in each direction of the E65 will remain open to ease holiday travel.

Siatista (Bara Junction)
A 24-hour blockade of the Bara Siatista junction on the Egnatia Motorway has been imposed for trucks of all types. Passenger vehicles, tourist buses, and emergency vehicles are being diverted via the old Kozani–Kastoria national road. Farmers stated that the situation will be reassessed to prevent serious traffic problems.

Border Crossings
Extended blockades continue at the Exochi and Promachonas border stations (Greek–Bulgarian border), as well as at Evzones and Niki (Greek–North Macedonian border). In most cases, trucks are restricted, while passenger vehicles and emergency services are allowed to pass during specific hours or via detours.

At Exochi, an indefinite blockade for trucks began at noon following a general assembly decision. Passenger vehicles continue to pass normally.

At Promachonas, trucks are blocked from 14:00 onward, with decisions regarding passenger traffic to be taken later in the day.

At Niki, a six-hour blockade for trucks will begin at 18:00, followed by a two-hour suspension of passenger traffic.

At Evzones, a four-hour full closure is planned from 18:00, with passage allowed only in emergency cases.

Central Greece

Farmers across Central Greece remain at their roadblocks, stating they will not withdraw unless their demands are met. In Bralos, tractors remain on the national road, but side roads are being kept open to avoid major disruption. Similar actions continue in Atalanti, Thebes, Chalkida, and surrounding areas.

In Chalkida, a three-hour closure of the High Bridge has been announced from 18:00 to 21:00, with traffic diverted to the old bridge.

Epirus and Western Greece

In Epirus, farmers, livestock breeders, and beekeepers continue protests at roadblocks in Arta, Louros (Preveza), Kalpaki (Ioannina), and Igoumenitsa. Planned closures affect truck traffic near border crossings and ports.
