Marinakis: Anestidis has no place in a meeting with Mitsotakis; The video with insults crosses the line of decency

Government excludes controversial unionist Anestidis from upcoming farmers’ meeting amid heated insults against Prime Minister Mitsotakis

Newsroom January 16 11:26

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis made it clear that Kostas Anestidis will not be attending the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the farmers next Monday afternoon. This follows the controversy sparked by Anestidis’s abusive language directed at Mitsotakis.

“Even before the video with the insults against the Prime Minister surfaced, Mr. Anestidis’s involvement was unacceptable. The video only confirms this stance—it crosses the boundaries of decency,” Marinakis told OPEN TV.

He also revealed that “Anestidis was an active member of New Democracy until 2019. Since then, he has not been active, and given recent events, he has been removed from even the inactive members’ lists. There is no question of his participation in the discussion.”

Marinakis further emphasized that “Kyriakos Mitsotakis has fought against unhealthy minorities within the party—people who believe they can exert pressure through union organizations. Such individuals, considering the video and the accusations against them, have no place at the meeting.”

Regarding the farmers’ list expected later in the day, the spokesperson said, “Two reasonable conditions must be met: the roads must remain open, as people have suffered enough, and the Prime Minister will not engage in talks with those under investigation or who have exhibited unlawful behavior, such as thugs who damaged police vehicles.”
