Tram Leaves Tracks, Collides with Building
Authorities report that the tram went off the tracks for reasons still under investigation and collided with a building, trapping several passengers inside. Firefighters arrived within minutes to rescue the trapped passengers.
The accident occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Viale Vittorio Veneto, as the tram traveled from Piazza Repubblica toward Porta Venezia. Emergency services, including multiple ambulances, rushed to the scene.
One passenger described the terrifying moment: “I thought it was an earthquake. I fell to the floor along with other passengers. Luckily, I only hurt my knee, but the man next to me was bleeding from the head.” Other passengers reported being thrown as the tram derailed and collided with the building.
Rescue teams continue to assist the injured at the scene, with some in serious condition, while authorities investigate the cause of the derailment.
This incident highlights the dangers of urban transit accidents and has prompted a rapid emergency response in central Milan.
