Croatia imposes a cap on fuel prices – Gasoline capped at €1.5 per liter

The ceiling for the price of diesel will be set at €1.55, thus avoiding an increase that would bring the price above €1.70

Newsroom March 9 05:35

Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenković today announced a cap on gasoline and diesel prices in Croatia as the war in the Middle East continues to put pressure on global oil supplies.

“Today, we will take measures to limit the increase in energy prices and protect the living standards of Croatian citizens,” the prime minister said during an emergency cabinet meeting.

Plenković also said his government will introduce the price cap starting tomorrow, Tuesday, making Croatia one of the first European Union countries to try to curb rising fuel prices at gas stations with such a measure.

The price ceiling for diesel will be set at €1.55 per liter, preventing an increase that could have pushed the price to €1.72. The gasoline price cap will remain at €1.50 per liter, compared with a potential increase to €1.55.

Oil prices exceeded $100 per barrel today for the first time since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February 2022, driven by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has renewed concerns about global crude oil supplies.
