The 1st Amfipoli AHEPA Run will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the archaeological site of Amfipoli in the regional unit of Serres, combining sport, history, and community participation. The event is organized with the support of the Municipality of Amfipoli and the participation of the SEGAS Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Association.
The race program includes three events designed for different age groups and fitness levels: a Half Marathon (21.097 m), a 5 km road race, and a 1 km children’s race, all taking place in the wider area surrounding the historic landmarks and natural landscapes of the region.
Half Marathon – 21.097 m
The Half Marathon will start at 8:30 a.m. from the Archaeological Park of Amfipoli (OSE area), which also serves as the finish line. The route follows a flat riverside course along the Strymon River, heading west toward the Byzantine Tower of Marmario and the ancient wooden bridge.
Runners will continue along the old provincial road connecting Serres and Amfipoli, passing the metal bridge over the Strymon River and the iconic Lion of Amphipolis monument before heading toward Nea Kerdylia. The route includes two turnaround points, guiding runners back along the same scenic path toward the finish line at the archaeological park.
5 km Road Race
The 5 km race will begin at 11:00 a.m., starting near the Lion of Amphipolis and finishing at the Archaeological Park. This race also follows a flat riverside route, crossing the metal bridge and passing the roundabout of the old Serres–Amfipoli provincial road before reaching the finish area. Transportation to the starting point will be provided by buses organized by the event.
Children’s Race – 1 km
The 1 km children’s race will start at 12:00 p.m., with both the start and finish located at the Archaeological Park of Amfipoli. The course follows a short section of the riverside route toward the Marmario Tower and the old wooden bridge, with a turnaround point near the archaeological site.
