Plevris: Our priority is the fight against illegal immigration and the immediate return of illegal immigrants

The minister responded to a letter from Amnesty International urging him to stop any action on return hubs - "I am now confident in the rightness of return hubs" he said in a post

Newsroom March 10 12:09

Amnesty International has sent a letter to Greek Minister Thanos Plevris urging him to halt any actions related to the establishment of return hubs for illegal immigrants.

In a public statement, Plevris expressed confidence in the project, posting on social media:

“The @AmnestyGreece sent us a letter disagreeing and ‘urging’ us to stop any action to create return hubs for illegal immigrants. I am now absolutely certain of the correctness of the project.”

In his formal response to Amnesty International, Plevris wrote:

“Dear Director,
I have received your letter dated 05/03/26, in which you invite me to refrain from further efforts to establish return hubs in third countries.

I inform you that Greece, together with four other EU countries, has agreed to participate in the creation of such hubs after the adoption of the Returns Regulation, which we will support.

In all these processes, we do not wish to simply participate but to play a leading role, as our priority is to combat illegal immigration and ensure the immediate return of illegal immigrants.

Be assured that not only will we not abstain, as you unauthorizedly and insultingly ‘invite’ us to do, but we will move swiftly to establish these centers.

We receive your comments and will evaluate and respect them accordingly.”
