The United Kingdom’s Royal Navy is expected to lead an international initiative aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report in The Times, as concerns rise over the security of global shipping.

The British Royal Navy will lead a “Hormuz Coalition” with the goal of ensuring the uninterrupted passage of ships through the strategically important waterway, according to information cited by The Times. The initiative is part of international efforts to maintain security in one of the world’s most important maritime corridors for energy and goods transport.

As British officials told the newspaper, the UK intends to deploy mine-countermeasure vessels in collaboration with the naval forces of the United States and France. Some of the participating ships may be autonomous, highlighting the growing use of advanced technologies in maritime security operations.

At the same time, according to Politico, London has offered to host a summit with the participation of more than 30 countries, which have already signed a joint statement expressing their intention to make “appropriate efforts” to ensure free and safe navigation in the region.

The initiative underscores the importance of the Strait of Hormuz for international trade and energy security, as a significant proportion of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports pass through this waterway. Developments are being closely monitored by governments and markets, given that any disruption to shipping could affect energy prices and the stability of the global supply chain.
