Olga Kefalogianni visits Australia in May

She will sign the agreement between Greece and Australia for granting tourist visas to young people from 18 to 30 years old with the right to work for a year

The Minister of Tourism of Greece, Olga Kefalogianni, is expected to visit Australia next month aiming to promote Greek tourism.

During her visit, Greece and Australia will sign the agreement on granting tourist visas to young people from 18 to 30 years old with the right to work for year.

According to sources, which are not officially confirmed, Mrs Kefalogianni will visit Melbourne on May 12th and 13th, Canberra on May 14th and Sydney on May 15th and 16th.

Mrs Kefalogianni will meet with tour operators and expatriate representatives, such as Greek Community of Melbourne, Greek- Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HACCI) etc. Media interviews have also been scheduled.

She will also attend the opening ceremony of the cooperation between Greek Melbourne Museum with the Benaki Museum which will take place on May 13th.

Moreover, according to last year’s official data 142,642 tourists from Oceania visited Greece and 129,112 of them came from Australia. So, tourist traffic from Australia to Greece in 2013 rose by 9.6 % and it is estimated that this year the percentage will be even higher.

Indeed, it is proven that Australians are the most generous tourists, they stay more days in Greece than any other visitor and they spend about 1420 euros in total. Canadians (1207 euros), Americans (1098 euros ) and Russians ( 1005 euros ) follow regarding the amount spent during holiday period in Greece.
