Specifically, the leaders of France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Greece, and Canada, together with the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission, welcomed in a joint statement the two-week ceasefire agreed today between the United States and Iran. They also expressed their thanks to Pakistan and all partners involved for their role in facilitating this important agreement.
The statement by European leaders
“The objective must now be to negotiate a swift and lasting end to the war in the coming days. This can only be achieved through diplomatic means. We strongly encourage rapid progress toward a meaningful negotiated settlement. This will be vital for protecting the civilian population of Iran and ensuring security in the region. It can help prevent a serious global energy crisis. We support these diplomatic efforts. To this end, we remain in close contact with the United States and other partners.”
In the same statement, the signatories call on all parties to implement the ceasefire, including in Lebanon.
Finally, it is underlined that: “Our governments will contribute to ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”
