Police officers of the Heraklion Security Department, who are handling the tragic case, are convinced that Eleftheria’s former companion is the perpetrator of her murder.
All the pieces of the puzzle lead to the conclusion that the woman fell victim to the obsession that her former partner had with her, who, after her murder, tried to mislead the authorities with various moves that are discussed below. When he realized that the noose around him was beginning to tighten, he pointed a short-barreled shotgun at himself and pulled the trigger.
As it emerged from the investigation of the Hellenic Police, the unfortunate Eleftheria was murdered between 11.00 and 11.10 on Sunday morning (19/4) during the meeting she had with the alleged perpetrator next to the chapel of St. Panteleimon in Daphnes.
The suspect allegedly stood in front of the woman’s white Honda and shot her in the head with a nine-gauge handgun (not recovered) while she was sitting in the driver’s seat. He then moved her body and placed it in the back seats of the car.
Fifty minutes later, at about 12.00pm, she was recorded by security cameras walking on foot on the Heraklion-Miros provincial road. From there, he hailed a taxi and went to his home in Malades.
Subsequently, the 40-year-old got into his Smart car and returned to the chapel in order to hide the evidence of the crime. He took the 43-year-old woman’s car and headed towards Agia Barbara. He entered the field behind a gas station and hid the vehicle with the body.
Then, at 13:13 at noon, he was recorded on camera on foot calling a taxi and returning to where he had left the Smart car, namely the chapel of Agios Panteleimon in Daphnes Heraklion where he had met Eleftheria. He got into the Smart and left.
From the first moment the 38-year-old had been the focus of the investigation – and this was because there were reports that he was pathologically jealous of the 43-year-old (both during their relationship and afterwards). The police officers who brought him in immediately noticed that he had scratches and scrapes on his hands, which he justified by saying that he had fallen with the motorbike, without, of course, convincing anyone.
Finally, the curtain fell on the tragedy at noon on Wednesday (22/4) when officers of the EL.AS. and the Fire Department found the body of the 43-year-old woman in her car in a field in Agia Varvara.
Police officers from the forensic laboratories went to the site to take evidence from the 43-year-old woman’s car, as well as a forensic expert.
Tragic figures are Eleftheria’s children, her brother and other relatives, who were found near the spot where the body was found. Close relatives of the unfortunate mother hugged each other tightly and cried as they could not believe the evil that had befallen their family.
