Another 758 foreign nationals illegally made their way to the eastern Aegean island of Mytilene in just the past 24 hours, authorities on the island reported.
The foreign nationals — alternately described as migrants, irregular migrants, refugees, undocumented migrants, illegal immigrants or just plain foreign nationals that entered Greek territory in an unregistered manner — all appear to be from the Middle East, reports state.
The latest wave of people landing on the island caused the mayor of Mytilene (Lesvos) to send an urgent letter to relevant minister warning of an extremely dire situation on the isle.
Mayor Spyros Galinos requested manpower and resources to deal with the situation, as he said.
“To understand the immensity of the problem, but let me remind you that every day the population of new,” he said.
