Exactly one century after the tragic death of architect Antoni Gaudí, Pope Leo XIV is in Barcelona today to inaugurate the tallest tower of the Sagrada Família, the church envisioned by the brilliant Catalan architect.
During today’s service, the Pope will bless the Tower of Jesus Christ, which was completed last February.
Present in Barcelona are Spain’s King Felipe and his wife, Queen Letizia, along with guests from around the world.
Standing approximately 172 meters tall, the tower has made the Sagrada Família the tallest Christian church in the world. At its summit stands a gigantic ceramic cross, which has now become the monument’s most recognizable new feature.
