New reports of social contribution payments to be imposed retroactively from January 1, 2015, are being examined by the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government in an effort to bridge a 2-bln-euro gap in the fiscal budget. Initially, the government was seeking to impose these fees on 420,000 taxpayers declaring incomes over 30,000 euros (gross). However, the bar has been lowered so as to include another 100,000 taxpayers earning from 22,000 to 25,000 euros per annum (gross).
Taxpayers who earn less than 2,000 euros or 1,800 euros per month (net) may be burdened with the additional contribution. The added fee will not take into account the health or family situation of the salary earner eg. large-membered or whether the earner has to work two jobs in order to gain that amount to pay off earlier debt.
