By unanimous decision of the Athens City Council, financial assistance of €3,000 per family has been approved for those affected by the collapse of the apartment building in Petralona, Athens Mayor Haris Doukas announced.

At the same time, the Special Operations Division of the municipality’s Sanitation Department installed safety barriers at the site, while the Road Construction Department placed metal sheets from an ongoing project in order to fully block access to the area.

A team from the Building Department also carried out an on-site inspection today and is expected to draw up a risk assessment report.

Meanwhile, the municipality’s Social Services and the Citizen Service Centre of the 3rd Municipal Community, at 74 Trion Ierarchon Street, remain on standby to assist affected residents and help them obtain the necessary documents for the payment of emergency financial aid.

“The City of Athens continues to stand by the residents affected by the collapse of this apartment building, mobilising every available resource to address the consequences of this tragic incident immediately and support the families who are suffering,” the municipality said in a statement.
