U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle has expressed her condolences following the deaths of two firefighters who lost their lives while battling the major wildfire near Rethymno, Crete.

In her statement, the ambassador wrote:

My heart is with the people of Greece today following tragic loss of two firefighters who gave their lives while courageously battling a wildfire near Rethymno, Crete.

I extend my deepest condolences to their families, colleagues, loved ones, and the entire Hellenic Fire Corps.…
