Three private universities that have branches in Greece will not be able to operate, at least during the new academic year, as the Third Chamber of the Council of State annulled their operating licenses and their study programs in their entirety, due to legal problems with the regulatory acts governing their operation.

In particular, the decisions of the Council of State, presided over by Vice President Diomidis Kyrilopoulos, which annul their operating licenses and their study programs in their entirety, concern the private universities CITY University, Keele University and Anatolia College.

Professor of the Athens Law School Panagiotis Lazaratos had appealed to the Council of State, and in a statement he said: “I welcome today’s decisions with great satisfaction, for which I invested a great deal of personal effort. May these decisions serve as a message that reinforces citizens’ trust in Justice and in the ideal of a high-quality education for Greek children.”
