A Facebook campaign to oust Speaker of the House Zoe Konstantopoulou was begun on July 20. The group, titled “Censure Motion Against Speaker of Parliament”, requires new members to be approved before being allowed to sign the petition.

The 22 managers of the group want petitioners to come from a wide political spectrum and claim not to belong to a particular party. The group hopes to gather 20,000 signatures by August 20, the date when the government is due to pay 3.2 bln euros to the ECB. So far they have 2,187 signatories calling for her impeachment.

The founders know that their petition has no legal grounds but hope that it would push lawmakers to follow suit and file a motion of censure. They accuse Konstantopoulou of obstructing the parliaentary procedure and abusing her position.

A separate campaign in support of the outspoken and radical House speaker has gathered some 8,000 signatures.
