Latest poll: SYRIZA barely ahead, but slumping

Combative Parliament prez viewed negatively by poll respondents

According to the latest poll conducted by the University of Macedonia and aired on Skai TV on Friday, the difference between leftist SYRIZA and conservative New Democracy (ND) is closing.

The voting preferences of respondents are: SYRIZA 25%, ND 22%, Golden Dawn 5.5%, Potami (River) 6%, AN.EL (Independent Greeks) 2%, KKE (Communist Party) 6%, PASOK 4.5%, Popular Unity (Syriza breakaway) 5%, Centre Union 4.5%.

The poll also indicates that 2 in 10 respondents grade the now defunct SYRIZA-AN.EL government’s effectiveness with a 0.5 on a scale of 10.

In terms of political leaders’ popularity, Tsipras has a slim edge (29.5%) over ND leader Evangelos Meimarakis (26%). Finally, 66.5% of the respondents had a negative view of Greek Parliament President Zoe Konstantopoulou.
