Excavations of the Antiquities Department in an area of Cyprus have been ongoing since 2007, when the first discovery was made.

However, a marble column with a bust of Alexander the Great as a personification of the Byzantine Emperor Herakleios was discovered, which likened the man as a “new Alexander”.

The two “basilicas” are part of a royal monumental ecclesiastical assembly, which, as mentioned in a statement by the conference of the Metropolis of Constantia – Ammohostos, the archaeological officer Dr. Eleni Prokopiou, is associated with Amathousian St. John the Merciful, Patriarch of Alexandria and patron of Limassol.
