Wow! Varoufakis says he’ll resign if “yes” vote in referendum (Watch)

Of course, hours before capital returns were announced last Sunday he had stated that government was opposed… Smiling Varoufakis also said he doesn’t wait in ATM line for … cash

Pressure for a “no” or momentum for a “yes”? Whatever the result, embattled Greek FinMin Yanis Varoufakis on Thursday morning told Bloomberg that he’ll resign if a “yes” vote is recorded in Sunday’s hastily called referendum on the last proposal ostensibly sent by creditors to the leftist Greek government last week.

He also said in a 20-minute interview with Bloomberg TV, described by the network as “TV gold”, that he prefers to … cut off his arm, rather than sign an agreement that does not envision a debt restructuring (haircut).

In other high-profile comments, Varoufakis claimed there will be an agreement with creditors after the referendum and added that he can’t tell the ECB what to do because he “respects” its independence.

Varoufakis wasn’t asked if any new deal on the table will … again be served up for approval in yet another referendum.

He underlined that the only way to avoid Grexit is to deal with the issue of the debt’s viability.

Asked if he believes German Chancellor Angela Merkel wants a change of government in Athens, he used a phrase from a British TV show, saying “you can say it, but I can’t comment”.

The Bloomberg anchor also asked the self-described “erratic Marxist” if he has visited an ATM to withdrawn the maximum allowed 60 euros per day, due to capital controls.

Varoufakis said that, firstly, he has no time to visit an ATM, and secondly, he said he doesn’t consider it as proper, in the current phase, to stand in line for cash.

Asked, naturally, how he gets by, Varoufakis said he doesn’t want to delve into a “personal issue” while also repeating his high-profile phrase of “living a simple life” with his wife.
