Alt. Minister’s contracts with laid off civil servants raise ethical issues, says paper

His previous work as a lawyer raises a serious ethical and political issue, the newspaper says

Alternate Administrative Reform Minister Giorgos Katrougalos’ previous work as a lawyer raises serious ethical and political issues according to the Sunday edition of To Vima newspaper.

Specifically, the newspaper says that the Alt. Minister has signed private contracts as a lawyer for representing laid-off civil servants. Based on those contracts, in case of reinstatement, Katrougalos would receive 12% of their compensation, which would amount to 3 years’ wages.

In response to the article, Katrougalos issued a statement today, noting that he has left his law practice in June 2014 and that he has nothing to do with this kind of cases anymore.

However, the newspaper claims that the Alt. Minister continued to sign private contracts up until January 27, 2015 when he was sworn in. The Alternate Minister has announced that he will give a press conference at 19.00 to respond to the article, which he characterized as slanderous, false and provocative.
