Gov’t: Historic Plaka Bridge will be rebuilt

Since Sunday morning when the bridge collapsed, several people have offered their assistance

Following a visit on Monday at the site of the historic Plaka Bridge in Arta, which collapsed yesterday as a result of the torrential rains and gale-force winds, Alternate Infrastructure Minister Christos Spirtzis promised local residents that the region’s landmark will be rebuilt.

Specifically, the minister said the bridge’s reconstruction “a wager for the country, for our cultural heritage … a message for our national dignity”.

He underlined that since Sunday morning when the bridge collapsed, several people have offered their assistance, including experts from the National Technical University of Athens, the regional sector of the Technical Chamber, construction companies and ordinary citizens.
