The city of Athens is to get a facelift by late 2016 and 2.6 million euros have been budgeted to revamp the capital of Greece.
Athens Mayor George Kaminis said the goal was to bring back the residents and small offices back to the city center.
The scheme includes:
– pedestrianized road network (Avramiotou, Agathonos, Chrysospiliotissis, Kairi, Karori, Nikiou, Polykleitou, Vlahava and Vyssis streets)
– pavement and street repairs (Agias Eirinis, Athinaidos, Athinas, Evripidou, Lekou and Praxitelous streets)
– repairs to damaged facilities
– central square upgrades
– more green spaces and better lighting
– clamping down on illegal parking
– a greater focus on the historic character of the city
A contractor to conduct the repairs will be chosen over the summer area with projects scheduled to take place by the end of 2016.
