Athens Metro: Plans for Line 4 from Galatsi to Maroussi

Line 4 will run from Alsos Veikou in Galatsi to Maroussi, making life easier for Greek commuters

Greek Infrastructure Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis has announced government plans to start construction on the fourth U-shaped Athens Metro line to connect the area of Galatsi to Maroussi. The line will span over 33 kilometers with 29 stations with the first part of construction focused on the creation of an 8.9 kilometer line with 9 stops from Athens to Alsos Veikou (Galatsi).

Engineering, environment and investment plans for Line 4 are to be presented to the European Investment Bank (EIB) in mid-September and it is hoped that the EIB will give money for half the amount. The project, estimated at 3.3 billion euros, will be the main topic of discussion when the EIB visits. The first stage of the project linking Athens to Galatsi is estimated at 1 billion euros and it is hoped that the EIB would contribute to half of this amount.

The EIB has already invested 1.5 billion euros in the Athens Metro and 650 million euros for the Thessaloniki metro that is still under construction.
