Attack at “Proto Thema” is an attack on freedom of press

Politicians disapproved the cowardly attack at the offices of Proto Thema and protothema.gr which caused damages and put employees’ lives in danger.

Government spokesperson Olga Gerovasili condemned the violent attack via Twitter account saying that every violent attack on media and its employees is condemnable.

New Democracy spokesperson Giorgos Koumoutsakos said: “We condemn in the clearest and strongest way the attack at the offices of “Proto Thema” newspaper,” adding that such practices hit directly democracy.

“Such actions are unacceptable and we are against them,” said SYRIZA in a statement condemning the attack.

“We condemn the attack at Proto Thema. The freedom of press is the top priority of every well-governed state,” PASOK spokesperson Pavlos Christidis posted on Twitter.

“The attack with sledgehammers, rocks and paints at the offices of Proto Thema newspaper is an attack on the freedom of press”, stressed DIMAR.

The Union of Journalists also condemned the attack stating: “The Greek journalists, who demonstrated yesterday along with employees across the country against the reform policy promoted by the government, condemn violence, wherever it comes from and whatever form it takes, and state that the right of Greek people to be informed is a non-negotiable right,”.
